About Corsair Boats

Corsair Boats was established in 2008, on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria by Mark Abbott, a master craftsman with over 30 years of experience in boat design, construction and restoration.

With a true passion for building boats, Mark and his team use all their combined skill and 45-plus years of experience to craft beautiful, practical, seaworthy boats. The Mornington Peninsula is a mecca for wooden boats which allows a broad range of skills to be perfected.

As well as operating from our facility in Rosebud, we provide onsite services to boats at Blairgowrie Marina, Martha Cove Marina, Hastings Marina, Yaringa Marina and Mornington Yacht Club and moorings in Portsea, Sorrento, and Blairgowrie.

Corsair Boats specialises in the construction and maintenance of traditionally built wooden boats. The iconic Victorian Couta Boat and more recently Maine Style Lobster Boats have become the backbone of the steadily growing business. Bespoke designs & custom projects are also very welcomed as well as the restoration & maintenance of a wide variety of many other types of boats.

Our shipwright team take great pride in using only the finest timbers and materials in the construction and maintenance of all our boats. Where possible we utilize native timbers such as Huon Pine which is widely regarded as the world’s best boat-building timber.

Quality is paramount and a boat built by Corsair Boats will provide you with many years of enjoyment and adventure on the water.

“Mark has been great in assisting me to restore my 1947 Couta Boat. He and his team have taken care with the Mera Ruby as if it was their own. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and they always are aware of the best way not only to finish the boat in a beautiful way but also to make sure she is ship safe and safe for the season. In the 10 years that he has taken care of my boats I have never had an issue with ant of the work or the timely manner he completes the boat maintenance ready for the season. I am looking forward one day to have a fully customised boat built by Mark and his tremendous team at Corsair Boats. I would always recommend anyone work with him.”

“Racing a Couta Boat has its moments and Mark and his skilled team have always been there to keep me sailing. A replacement bow sprit, gaff or repairs after a careless boat damaged mine on the mooring, have all been done quickly, professionally and at a reasonable cost. I have also received assistance, advice and made welcome when doing a lot of my maintenance at Corsair during the winter.”
